Our History
In 2007, a landmark report published by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) detailed changes in US Medicare legislation that could affect health outcomes for patients with multiple chronic diseases. In response, a committee of leaders and experts was established to devise a plan for an organization that would certify pharmacists providing medication therapy management (MTM).
The board was founded on November 7, 2007. The board was finally incorporated as the National Board of Medication Therapy Management, Inc. (NBMTM) in 2017.
As the years progressed, the program has grown in stature and evolved into a board certification.
Our Logo
One of the components of the logo is the bowl of Hygieia which is one of the symbols of pharmacy. Hygieia was the Greek goddess of healing and the daughter of Asclepius. Asclepius’ symbol is his rod, with a snake twined around it; correspondingly, Hygieia’s symbol is a cup or chalice with a snake twined around its stem and poised above it.Another component is the laurel wreath which serves as a traditional emblem of achievement and excellence and represents the development and advancement of knowledge.
The pentagram (known as a star pentagon) is the shape of a five-pointed star which represents the Five-Star Quality Rating System, better known as Star Ratings.
